Mecklenburg County Public Health will observe National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day on Feb. 7. The day was first observed in 1999. 

The Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department is starting off 2024 with a new youth pickleball league.

Established to promote health and wellness for people 50 years old and up, the annual Mecklenburg County Senior Games and SilverArts provide a forum to meet new people, enjoy healthy competition, be creative, and, most importantly, to HAVE FUN! Will you be the winner of the next annual Senior Games?

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is celebrating Black History Month in February with several events that honor the legacy of Black Americans in Mecklenburg County and beyond.  

 Senior citizens on a fixed income. A disabled resident unable to work. A veteran living in a home adapted for their needs. These are examples of Mecklenburg County residents who might qualify for a break on their property taxes.

My Big Notebook provides a buddy in a book, as a great start to an elementary school aged child's mental health toolkit. Intentionally designed to resemble a composition notebook to be discreet, it includes real stories, healthy coping mechanisms, positive affirmations, resources, and coloring and journaling pages.

Public Health officials are seeing a rise in mpox cases in our region and across North Carolina. Since late 2023, six new cases of mpox were reported among Mecklenburg County residents. Since the beginning of the outbreak in July 2022, Mecklenburg County has reported 255 cases and 715 cases statewide.  

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation has started clearing trees and brush to prepare for the construction of a new greenway through Reedy Creek Park and along Reedy Creek Nature Preserve.
